The Korean War began on June 25, 1950. It was said that this first invasion led to the Cold War of Asia. An approximate 75, 000 soldiers coming from the North Korean People’s Army attacked the 38th parallel which is considered as boundary separating the Soviet- backed Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to the north and the pro- Western Republic of Korea to the south(History.com Staff 2009). This conflict became international when other countries meddle with problem. United Nations was told to join and support the South Korea by US while the People’s Republic of China entered to help the North Korea. The war divided Korea and it left scars among different countries due to Cold War that it made(Rachman 2015).
Korea had been under the control of Japan and lasted until 1910. Their independence is considered still as colonization. The north part of the 38th parallel was supposed to be occupied by Soviet Russia while the south was held by US administration who was led by General Douglas MacArthur who is also controling the headquarters in Tokyo. The North which was under control of the Soviets used Stalinist regime under their client Kim- II Sung and established the group of the North Korean People’s Army who are equipped with Russian tanks and artillery. On the other hand, south had been through a chaotic situation when American administration under Syngman Rhee declared their opposition for national unity by force. Due to this event, South had been limited with needed equipment and weapons(Truman 1950).
After several years, the Republic of Korea was swiftly invaded by the North Korean’s People Army on June 25, 1950. As the pentagon had been caught off- guard, US called for the help of United Nations Charter and named the North Koreans as aggressors. The first American troops were then sent in to stiffen resistance against the invader. The British government responded at once and elements of the Far East Fleet were soon in action along the Korean coast, together with ships of Commonwealth navies(Hickey 2013).
Despite of this counterattacked from the opposing party, North Koreans still advanced to the South aiming to have a very important port- Pusan. American hurriedly sent from occupational duties in Japan attacked the North Korean troops. However, commander of the 8th United States Army of Korea, General Walton, empowered his army and held the Pusan bridgehead as reinforcements began to arrive and aim the area. These reinforcements included two British battalions from Hong Kong, the Middlesex and the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, and an Australian battalion from Japan. Aside from that, a strong brigade group was mobilized by the British and there are about thousands of soldiers called to have their active duty and help in the war. Unfortunately, the brigade reached Korea when the seemed to be over already(U.S. Department of State Office of the Historian n.d.).
